Rumi Jeraj will be hosting a free Tap Jam Workshop on Thursday June 25th from 6:00-7:30 at the studio
The workshop is for tap dancers of all levels and is focused on the basics of improvising in tap dance. The workshop will consist of watching some footage, playing games and introducing dancers to the idea of a Tap Jam in a stress-free and fun environment.
A bit about Rumi:
Rumi has been a student at the Sherwood Park School of Dance since the age of three. Now at eighteen, Rumi is leaving our studio in pursuit of his post-secondary education in musical theatre at Randolph Academy of Performing Arts. He has decided to host this Tap Jam Workshop as a way to inspire fellow tap dancers and say good-bye to the studio.
“In January of this year I took a one week trip to New York in order to take part in the unified auditions. Here I auditioned for 6 American universities BFA acting and musical theatre programs. In March of this year I also auditioned for Randolph Academy of Performing Arts in Toronto. I was admitted into the University of Wisconsin, AMDA and Randolph. I have decided to attend Randolph in September of this year because of the unique nature of their program. Most musical theatre programs focus on singing and theatre performance with little dance, and no film training. The unique triple threat program at Randolph is geared towards dancers, singers and actors where the end goal is not a musical theatre actor by rather a well rounded performer. I am excited for this next step on my journey as an artist and to see where my path leads me!”
“I have found in my experience jamming has not only been a fun time but also a great way to improve my timing, musicality and over all tap dance!”
